Rick Santorum told hundreds of activists at a Milwaukee County Republican Party dinner Saturday night, "I'm bowling my way across the state of Wisconsin and having a darn good time."

Santorum, speaking at the Italian Community Center, had just come from an event in Platteville, where he bowled a few frames at Pioneer Lanes.

He said President Barack Obama "gives speeches about all the problems in America, not just today but in the past."

"In the president's eyes, America became a great country" when it started to redistribute money, Santorum said.

In a speech in which he talked about conservative values, from the Founding Fathers to the modern day, Santorum said "conservativism is a stewardship of a great inheritance."

He said the issues of the day are "driven by government's expansion" and its "dictatorial presence," in the economy.

Santorum criticized what he called Obama's penchant to apologize to others around the world.

"Never under our administration, never will we apologize for this great land,"?Santorum said.

Without mentioning GOP?frontrunner Mitt Romney, Santorum sought to stake his claim as the true conservative in the race. He said, "Americans are not looking for lukewarm right now. They're looking for bold contrasting colors."

Santorum received a standing ovation when he said Gov. Scott Walker and Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch will be re-elected in the June 5 recall elections.

"I ask you to shake this race up and let the people across this country know, that Wisconsin stands not just with your governor and lieutenant governor, but that you stand for the principles they stand for,"?Santorum said.

    Nanotech Armor Guards Against Breast Cancer Remission - 03/30 ...

    The Burrill Report

    ?This is like a bed-of-nails surface to them, says lead researcher Thomas Webster.?

    Researchers at Brown University have created an implant with a modified surface that seems to prevent breast cancer cells from growing back after an operation to remove cancerous tissue. The implant, made from an FDA-approved biodegradable polymer with its surface changed at the nanoscale level, causes a reduction in the blood vessel architecture that breast cancer tumors depend upon, while at the same time attracting healthy endothelial cells for breast tissue. Their research results have been published in the journal Nanotechnology.

    One in eight women in the United States will develop breast cancer during her lifetime. Many of these women undergo surgery to remove the tumor and often undergo some kind of breast reconstruction afterward. Of these women, one in five will see their cancer return, according to the American Cancer Society.

    Looking to create materials that might drive down that rate of relapse, the researchers created an implant with a surface structured like a ?bed-of-nails? at the nanoscale level that deters cancer cells from dwelling and thriving. A nanometer is one-billionth of a meter, or 1/50,000th the width of a human hair.

    ?We?ve created an (implant) surface with features that can at least decrease (cancerous) cell functions without having to use chemotherapeutics, radiation, or other processes to kill cancer cells,? says Thomas Webster, associate professor of engineering and the corresponding author of the research paper. ?It?s a surface that?s hospitable to healthy breast cells and less so for cancerous breast cells.?
    Webster and his lab were already modifying various implant surfaces to promote the regeneration of bone, cartilage, skin, and other cells. In this work, he and Lijuan Zhang, a fourth-year graduate student in chemistry, sought to reshape an implant that could be used in breast reconstruction surgery that would not only attract healthy cells but also repel any lingering breast-cancer cells. They created a cast on a glass plate using 23-nanometer-diameter polystyrene beads and polylactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA), a biodegradable polymer widely in clinical settings, such as stitches. The result is an implant whose surface is covered with adjoining, 23-nanometer-high pimples. They also created PLGA implant surfaces with 300-nanometer and 400-nanometer peaks for comparison.

    In the lab they found that after one day, the 23-nanometer-peak surfaces showed a 15-percent decrease in the production of the VEGF protein upon which endothelial breast cancer cells depend, compared to an implant surface with no surface modification. They also found that the 23-nanometer semispherical surface yielded 15 percent more healthy endothelial breast cells compared to normal surface after one day of lab tests.

    The 23-nanometer surface showed greater reduction in VEGF concentration when compared to the 300-nanometer and 400-nanometer-modified implants as well. Webster thinks this may be because the bumpier surface makes it more difficult for the tumor cells, which tend to be stiffer than normal cells, to wrap themselves around the contours, take hold, and thrive.

    ?This is like a bed-of-nails surface to them,? says Webster. ?I would guess that surface peaks less than 23 nanometers would be even better, although polystyrene beads with such dimensions don?t yet exist. ?The more you can push up that cancerous cell, the more you keep it from interacting with the surface.?

    Webster and Zhang next plan to investigate why the nano-modified surfaces deter malignant breast cells, to create surface features that yield better results, and to determine whether other materials can be used. Their research was funded by the National Institutes of Health?s National Center for Research Resources and the Memorial Hermann Foundation, a group connected to the largest not-for-profit healthcare system in Texas.?

    From Sports to Automotive: Ricky Bumgardner Jr.

    Ricky Bumgardner Jr. Lebanon Ford PhotoLast August I began the daunting task of interviewing all of the wonderful people that make up what we know as Lebanon Ford. Little did I realize that it would take a lot more time and effort than I initially thought.

    But fear not, for I have started the series once again!

    Now, I?m not quite the?new guy that I was back in August, and in this situation, it?s actually the exact opposite. This week I had a chance to interview one of the newest additions to Lebanon Ford, Ricky Bumgardner Jr. Ricky had many interesting stories of his days working for the St. Louis Cardinals (even though he is a die hard Cincinnati Reds fan), his fear of heights, and his love and passion for Mountain Dew and Peppermint Patties. Read on for the full interview?

    Zach Bello:?Ok, here we are again. For the sixth time now (we were interrupted every single time we tried to do the interview, we were hoping this was the last). ?So, tell me a little bit about yourself. And pretend I didn?t already ask you this question 5 times already?

    Ricky Bumgardner Jr.:?Born and raised in Lebanon, Ohio. 28 long years in this fine town. Big sports guy, I played varsity baseball and varsity soccer for 4 years. Growing up sports was my life, it was my big thing, I took it very serious. A little bit more about me? I?m the father of one, her name is Mahaley, she?s about 18 months old now, definitely my life. It?s open perspective about life up for sure. Having someone else to look up to you and depend on you, can change a lot about you. I like to have fun, if people aren?t laughing, I feel like it?s a weird situation. I like to have a loose personality so if someone says hey you need to go talk to him, it?s going to be easy and no pressure. I don?t like to be that high pressure guy. And that?s about all I got?

    ZB:?Well that?s pretty good.. It?s a start.. So you haven?t always been in the automotive industry, right?

    RB:?Nope, no I have not..

    Ricky Bumgardner JrZB:?So this is your first round

    RB: This is my first round, greener than the grass in your front yard when it comes to selling cars.

    ZB:?And how long have you been here at Lebanon Ford now?

    RB: I?ve been here close to 2 months now, so I?m brand new to it.

    ZB:?So what do you think about it so far?

    RB: I think it?s definitely something that once I get rolling, it?ll be that perfect career move for me, it?s a rush. I mean, selling something like cars, it?s a big decision for someone to make, and I feel comfortable with people sitting in front of me and knowing that I am helping them make the right decision for them and whatever situation. The first car I ever sold I remember it being such an adrenaline rush, and I?ve been in sales before and nothing has felt like that.

    ZB: I know you had a pretty interesting career doing some sports stuff before starting up in the car business, tell me a little bit about that.

    RB: I did a small little internship with Wilmington College with the Sports Information Department and that got me to keep rolling with sports. After that I had an internship with the St. Louis Cardinals and then with the Florida Marlins. I was down at their spring training facilities and helping to make their media guides for spring training. My office was in the Cardinals clubhouse, so the memories that I got to make with them was really awesome. Being a lifelong baseball fan, it was really cool to be around a lot of the guys that I grew up idolizing every day, it was something you could never forget.

    ZB: Reds fan?

    RB:?Die hard Reds fan. That was the hardest part about going down there working for the Cardinals was the fact I was a Reds fan. They asked before I started what the hardest part about moving away from home and working would be and my response was ?The only thing hard about having this job is that it?s not for the Reds.? But I grew accustomed to it and they took good care of me. But definitely Reds all day, 24/7/365.

    ZB: I love it. I can?t wait for Reds games to start again. I?d love to go see an Opening Day game once, I?ve never had the change.

    RB: Oh, it?s great. The atmosphere is unbelievable. I mean you pay $150 to go to and see a game, then the next day you can pay $6 and see the same team play again. But you get to see the parade and it?s just a great time.

    ZB: So, something not necessarily along the lines of the automotive industry, but, more personal. Where is the coolest place you?ve ever traveled?

    Ricky Bumgardner Jr Lebanon Ford Picture

    RB: You know, I?m not a big traveler, because I?m afraid of heights. I?ve never been on a plane before.. a little fun fact about me. I think I?ve been on one roller coaster in my entire life. Heights terrify me. But, something that I remember the most has to be going to Florida for spring training. I literally had to pack all my stuff and leave and realize that I wasn?t coming back home for awhile. There was definitely some cool places that I visited there. I love Chicago, going to Wrigley Field. If you?re a sports guy, that?s the place to go. I?ve been to Yankee Stadium, so when I travel, it?s usually for sports.

    ZB: What?s your favorite part about your job now?

    RB:?My favorite part is that at the end of the day, you are in business for yourself. If I?m not doing anything, then that really affects me. I?ve been in management for so long and climbed the ladder and quickly forgot what it was like to be a salesperson. Coming back and knowing that I?ve got millions of dollars worth of inventory sitting at the palm of my hand is a really cool feeling, and at the end of the day, I have to manage myself and know that I?m getting everything done that I want to accomplish.

    ZB:?This one might be a little bit difficult to answer but I?m going to ask anyway?

    RB:?(Sigh)

    ZB: We all know from the inside of the automotive industry that there are a lot of misconceptions about who we are? If there was one thing that you could tell to everyone out there who may not completely understand us or the automotive world and you wish they would understand, what would it be.

    RB:?I think the biggest thing they need to know is to get the ?oh he?s a car salesman? stereotype out of their heads. I know we hear that term a lot, but I think that stuff is out the window now. I know that if you come to me, I want you to know I?m not coming to harass you or make you think i?m going to try and make you buy something you don?t want. No, what I do is I want to come out and just talk, I love just talking to people. I love helping people out and I just want to have a conversation. I think it?s a disservice to come out and not welcome you. ?A lot of places won?t come out and just welcome you when you arrive and that is something I like doing every time. Maybe I?m more of a new school person anyway who doesn?t really understand how this all had been done in the past, but I think that?s my biggest attribute, is i?m being taught the new way. ?I want people to know that when they come here, it?s going to be an experience and doing business here doesn?t end after the delivery, it?s more of a long term relationship that we want to build. If you come and look at everything we?re doing here, you?ve got to come here and check it out. It?s a no brainer to not come and check us out?

    Ricky Bumgardner Jr Picture

    ZB: I?ve got two more questions for you. If you were dropped on a desert island and could only bring 3 things with you, what would they be?

    RB:?(Silence?) Jenna (wife), Mahaylee (daughter), and? um? Is it hot there?

    ZB:?Um, sometimes?

    RB:?Ah, never mind, I?ll take getting?sun burnt. Ok so, Jenna, Mahaylee, and an unlimited supply of a combo I?d have to make so I could get 4 things, Mountain Dew and a Peppermint Patty combo value pack type deal.

    ZB:?Well that?s kind of cheating, you?re asking for an unlimited supply and a combo pack of two things? But I?m assuming that Mountain Dew and peppermint patties are your favorite things?

    RB:?I don?t think there?s anything better in the planet than a Mountain Dew and a peppermint patty. I?ll eat that all day.

    ZB:?Last question. So what do you think separates Lebanon Ford from the rest of the car dealerships out there?

    RB:?I mean, I?ve yet to walk in to a dealership that understands where the car industry is going. I think the coolest thing that we have that nobody else has is the myTech Team and how serious we take it. It?s awesome knowing that we have someone that is coming here to work with the vehicle technology and it?s the only thing he works on. I feel like customers are sometimes afraid with all this new technology and the fact that we have someone here who was brought on to help with just that is awesome. And how modern we are. You look at websites out there and look at ours, I think it really helps to separate ourselves. It?s not 1970 anymore, it?s 2012. I think we?re on the right track.

    ZB: Any final words?

    RB: You know, this whole peppermint patty and Mountain Dew talk, I think it?s time I go get one.

    ?Ethiopia ? Telecoms, Mobile, Broadband and Forecasts?

    Management Contract with France Telecom Pays off for ETC

    This annual report provides a comprehensive overview of trends and developments in Ethiopia?s telecommunications market.

    Subjects Covered Include:

    • One of the least developed but fastest growing mobile markets in the region;
    • The monopoly telecom provider in the country;
    • Key statistics;
    • Market and industry overviews;
    • Government policies affecting the telecoms industry;
    • Regulatory environment;
    • Plans for privatisation and market liberalisation;
    • Infrastructure development;
    • Convergence (voice/data, fixed/wireless/mobile).
    • Internet and broadband development and growth;
    • Mobile data services;
    • Broadband, including 3G mobile;

    Average Revenue per User (ARPU).Ethiopia is the last country in Africa allowing its national telco, ETC a monopoly on all telecom services including fixed, mobile, Internet and data communications. This monopolistic control has stifled innovation and retarded expansion. The government tries to encourage foreign investment in a broad range of industries by allowing foreigners up to 100% equity ownership. However, there is no official schedule for the privatisation of the national carrier and the introduction of competition, but once this happens, the potential to satisfy unmet demand in all service sectors is huge. A management contract with France Telecom has led to dramatically improved performance by ETC and is seen as a first step towards privatisation.

    Market Highlights:

    • ETC transforms under management contract with France Telecom;
    • Detailed profile of the monopoly service provider in all market sectors;
    • Financial results 2010/11;
    • Strong revenue growth despite drastic price cuts;
    • Forecasts for mobile and Internet markets to 2013 and 2016;
    • Multi-billion US$ investments planned before 2012.

    New Government ePayment Regulation Costs Small Business $10 Billion

    taxThe small business economy is suffering considerable harm from new regulations being enforced by the IRS this year. There?s a new tax form that?s causing this trouble for small business owners who collect ePayments and conduct eCommerce. The IRS Form 1099-K requires merchant processors and third-party payment processors, such as PayPal and Square, to report the income that individuals and small businesses were paid through their services to the IRS in 2011. ?The IRS estimates that 53 million of these forms should have been sent for tax year 2011, making it the 10th highest volume tax form in it?s first year of existence. That?s a lot of small businesses being hit by the implementation of Internal Revenue Code Section 6050W.

    Wolseley reports 28% profits growth

    Published: 28-Mar-2012

    Global merchanting chain Wolseley has reported a 28% growth in group pre-tax profits to ?250m for its half-year ending January 31.

    Wolseley, which exited the UK building materials market with its sale of Build Center to Jewson last year, saw its sales rise 3% to ?6.8bn for the period.

    ?Like-for-like growth trends for the group since the end of the period have been slightly lower than the first half overall with the US a little better and Europe a little weaker,? said Ian Meakins, Wolseley chief executive.

    The group?s French business, which includes building materials business Reseau Pro and the Wood Solutions division, reported profit and sales growth in each of the last two quarters.

    ?Revenue in the Wood Solutions business was broadly flat as activity slowed in the second quarter whilst gross margins improved,? Wolseley said.

    ?The business performed in line with the market overall, with the structure and trusses business being ahead.?

    Some 43% of Wolseley?s revenue is in the US, but the company has now sold its remaining share of Stock Building Supply, the building materials and lumber business.

    The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) is considering an offer by Jewson to sell a branch in each of 22 local areas to remedy competition concerns raised by its completed acquisition of Build Center.

    The OFT has suspended its referral of the merger to the Competition Authority while it considers the Jewson offer.

    Legal Schnauzer: "Fully Loaded" Activities at The Grove Apartments ...

    Campus Crest Communities CEO Ted Rollins has an MBA from Duke University, so it stands to reason that he knows a thing or two about business. But Rollins must have skipped classes for the marketing component in Duke's MBA program. How else can you explain Rollins' approval of the slogan "fully loaded" for the student-housing complexes his company builds under The Grove banner?

    Was no one at the company capable of looking ahead and seeing that an unfortunate event likely was to happen at one of their facilities, bringing a dark and ironic twist to the term "fully loaded." Such an event happened recently?when 23-year-old Shardae Wright was shot to death in her apartment at The Grove in Clarksville, Tennessee, near Austin Peay State University. Nicholas Rico Durant, Wright's boyfriend, has been arrested and charged with murder.

    This was not the first time "fully loaded" has taken on a dark meaning in relation to a Grove site--and it surely will not be the last. Does the company plan to continue with that marketing campaign? We put that question to Ted Rollins in the wake of Shardae Wright's shooting death, but he has not responded to our message.

    Rollins has been the subject of numerous posts at Legal Schnauzer because of Rollins v. Rollins, a divorce action he initiated in Alabama that left his ex wife and two daughters on food stamps here in Birmingham. For good measure, Rollins has a $26.3-million Grove project planned at Auburn University. Once completed, that complex should liven things up at the "Loveliest Village on the Plains."

    It's been almost two years since Sherry Carroll Rollins contacted me and began to talk about an ex husband who belonged to one of the nation's wealthiest families, who managed to sue her for divorce in Alabama even though she sued him first in South Carolina (where they lived), and who was launching a company to build apartment complexes near college campuses around the country.

    When news broke that the company had completed a $382-million Wall Street IPO in late 2010, it was obvious this was to be a major venture, run by serious business people. So I was stunned to discover that Campus Crest Communities planned to market itself as a provider of "fully loaded" living for college students.

    Anyone paying the slightest attention to American culture knows we are awash in guns and alcohol--and both tend to be available to college students. Even the most unhip folks among us know the term "loaded" has unfortunate connotations when applied to firearms and booze. You did not have to be a visionary to see that the term "fully loaded" was going to come back to bite Campus Crest Communities on its marketing fanny.

    In fact, the biting started long before the shooting death in Clarksville, Tennessee. In November 2009, a man was charged with felony reckless endangerment and public intoxication after firing a gun into a woman's apartment at The Grove in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, near Middle Tennessee State University. Suspect Angelo Demetrius Leach apparently was "fully loaded" in at least two senses of the term.

    In July 2011, a woman had her 2005 Nissan Altima carjacked at The Grove in Mobile, on the campus of the University of South Alabama. In that case, the assailant wielded a knife, so it's not certain he qualified as "fully loaded."

    These are serious matters, and we don't mean to make light of situations where young people have found themselves in danger. That's why we put some serious questions to Ted Rollins following the homicide at Austin Peay. The CEO has stated to us several times that he would be "more than happy" to respond to written questions, and we have submitted questions via e-mail on more than a dozen occasions. He has yet to respond to any of them.

    Here are the questions we asked after the shooting death of Shardae Wright:

    Ted:

    I understand that a resident was murdered Friday evening at The Grove apartment complex near Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN.

    I am developing a post about the homicide for tomorrow morning (3/7), so I wanted to give you an opportunity to comment by responding to the following questions:

    * What does this incident say about security at The Grove complexes?

    * What does this say about safety of students who live at The Grove, coming close on the heels of a balcony collapse at your complex near North Texas State?

    * Are you concerned about your marketing theme--fully loaded living--in light of a shooting death at one of your properties?

    * I wrote just this morning about allegations that you committed perjury in the Rollins v. Rollins divorce case in Alabama, and you did not respond to questions in advance of that post. What does your own apparent disrespect for the law say about the lawlessness that now seems to be permeating your apartment complexes around the country?

    This is a time-sensitive story, so I would appreciate a prompt response.

    Does Ted Rollins' failure to respond indicate that he simply does not care that a young woman lost her life at one of his properties? Does it mean he does not have good answers to questions about safety and security for residents at The Grove? Does it mean he doesn't know what to do about a marketing campaign gone awry?

    I could see how a reasonable person might answer yes to all of those questions.

All responses from the Unconscious Perspective are turned into Empowering Questions.

    Step 3 ? Unconscious Self-Image
    If you set a goal that has to do with a modify of your physical image without restructuring the image in your subconscious, your chances of success are at best remote. The dialogue used during the meditation is specific to you based on the first six steps in the plan. What you say to yourself is more important than anything anyone will ever say to you or about you. Once you have learned the dialogue with the induction, you can use this to put yourself in a relaxed state that will allow you greater manage over all your unconscious processes.

    Regardless of weather your wellness goal is a modify in eating plan for weight-loss, an increase in your fitness plan or to take manage of an consuming disorder such as anorexia or bulimia. If established, the pact would be Japan's first with a country from the Group of Eight major economies. (AP Photo/Issei Kato, Pool)

    (AP) ? Japan and Canada agreed Sunday to formally start talks aimed at forging a free trade agreement between the two countries.

    If established, the pact would be Japan's first with a country from the Group of Eight major economies.

    Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda and his Canadian counterpart, Stephen Harper, said they would also seek to boost economic, energy and security relations between the two countries.

    "This is a truly historic step that will help create jobs and growth in both countries," Harper told a joint news conference. "The negotiations we are announcing today complement Canada's ambitious trade agenda."

    Japan is Canada's fourth-largest export market, and a free trade deal could potentially increase that "by as much as two-thirds," Harper said.

    Japan's main exports to Canada are cars, machinery and other industrial products. Its chief imports from Canada are natural resources and agricultural products including soybeans and pork. Both countries are seeking to join the U.S.-led trans-Pacific multilateral trade pact known as TPP. Japan's highly protected farm sector is seen as a main obstacle.

    Noda stressed the importance of accelerating private-sector cooperation on the trade of natural gas and other energy resources.

    Japan is struggling to secure a stable supply of energy resources due to concerns about a serious power crunch stemming from the nuclear crisis set off by last year's massive earthquake and tsunami.

    The March 11, 2011, disasters destroyed power and cooling functions at the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant, sending three reactors into meltdown and forcing 100,000 people to relocate.

    The crisis also raised public concerns and opposition to restart reactors idled for regular safety checks. Only two of Japan's 54 reactors are currently running, with all of them expected to go offline by the end of April if none are resumed by then.

    During the talks Sunday, Japan and Canada also agreed to strengthen cooperation in defense and security in the Asia-Pacific region, Noda said. The two leaders are heading to Seoul to attend this week's Nuclear Security Summit.

    "We reaffirmed the importance to tackle outstanding global issues, particularly the issues surrounding North Korea and others in the Asia-Pacific region, as we cooperate as partners," Noda said.

    North Korea says it will launch an observation satellite on a long-range rocket next month. Japan shares fear by the U.S. and South Korea that Pyongyang wants to test long-range missiles that could eventually deliver nuclear warheads.

    GOP candidates plan Maryland visits

    Three Republican presidential candidates ? Rick Santorum, Ron Paul and Newt Gingrich ? are preparing to plant a flag in Maryland ahead of the state's April 3 primary, offering GOP voters here a rare chance to take part in a national political battle.

    Local campaign officials said they expect candidates will swing through the state early next week, following Saturday's primary in Louisiana. Maryland, which has 37 delegates to offer, votes the same day as Washington, D.C., and Wisconsin.

    "We've been waiting for a long time to get our due attention from the possible next president of the United States," said state Republican Party Chairman Alex X. Mooney. "Maryland matters."

    The state's primary comes at an important time for former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who campaigned Wednesday in Arbutus. Romney has a significant lead in delegates but has been unable to woo skeptical conservatives.

    A national spokeswoman for Santorum's campaign said the former senator from Pennsylvania is planning to visit the state Tuesday, though she provided no details.

    Gingrich is also planning a trip to Annapolis on Tuesday, said a state delegate who is leading the candidate's Maryland campaign, and might venture onto the floors of the Maryland General Assembly. National campaign aides have not confirmed that plan.

    Del. Warren E. Miller, a Howard County Republican who is co-chairing Gingrich's campaign in Maryland, said he expected Gingrich would arrive in the morning and walk down Main Street to meet with business owners. He said he had also invited Gingrich to the State House.

    Gingrich is also expected to attend a fundraiser in Montgomery County, local officials said.

    Paul, the Texas congressman, will appear Wednesday at a town hall meeting in Ritchie Coliseum at the University of Maryland, College Park, a campaign spokesman said.

    Romney, who dropped out of the running for the nomination in 2008, days before Maryland voted, is the most organized candidate in Maryland. He has amassed a coterie of well-known GOP officials and volunteers.

    Twenty-four of 37 delegates in Maryland are awarded by congressional district, meaning that the candidates could add to their delegate count even if they lost the state's popular vote. Ten statewide delegates go to the winner of the popular vote.

    Three remaining slots go to party officials, including Mooney.

    GOP's claims about Obama puzzle environmentalists

    NEW YORK (AP) -- Mitt Romney says President Barack Obama blocked construction of the Keystone XL oil pipeline as a gift to environmentalists. Newt Gingrich calls Obama "President Algae" for supporting research on biofuels. And Rick Santorum says Obama's environmental views constitute a "phony theology" that prioritizes the earth over people.

    The leading Republican presidential hopefuls have cast Obama as environmental extremist whose policies have put him out of touch with the needs of ordinary Americans. It's a characterization that may resonate with GOP primary voters, but it has surprised environmental activists, many of whom say they are let down by Obama's record on their issues.

    "The environmental movement has been at odds with Barack Obama for much of his three years in the White House," said Bill McKibben, founder of the environmental group 350.org. "The president is very much in the center - far too much in the center for many environmentalists."

    As a candidate, Obama's pledge to limit the gases that contribute to global warming and embrace cleaner forms of energy pleased many environmental activists. But nearing the end of his first term, Obama's record on the environment is mixed - and many of his decisions have irked the very activists who Republicans suggest have broad sway over administration policies.

    "Absolutely, he has been a disappointment," said Frank O'Donnell, president of the environmental group Clean Air Watch. "When Obama was elected, I think public health and environmental advocates thought a number of unresolved problems would be dealt in short order. And we learned that environmental protection did not prove to be a first-tier activity for the White House."

    Some Obama actions have cheered environmentalists. He successfully ushered in historic increases in fuel economy standards for automobiles as well as the first-ever regulations on heat-trapping gases blamed for global warming and on toxic mercury pollution from power plants. He has invested heavily in cleaner forms of energy; the U.S. produces more energy from alternative sources such as wind, solar and biofuels now than it has at any point in history.

    But Obama failed to persuade a Democratic Congress to pass promised legislation limiting carbon emissions. He abandoned the legislative effort entirely after Republicans gained control of the House in the 2010 elections.

    And in a move that deeply angered environmentalists, the president in September scrubbed a plan to set a stricter health standard on lung-damaging smog, sticking with one set by his GOP predecessor George W. Bush that scientists say is too weak.

    For the GOP presidential candidates, it all amounts to a zealous pursuit of policies that have slowed the nation's economic recovery.

    In his appeal to evangelical voters, Santorum has framed Obama's environmentalism as "phony theology" - a belief espoused by many Christian conservatives that environmental activism places nature above man and promotes veneration of the earth instead of God.

    Recently, Santorum, Romney and Gingrich have cast the rising cost of gasoline, currently averaging about $3.88 a gallon, as a consequence of Obama's decisions to limit oil drilling in environmentally sensitive areas. However, U.S. oil production is unrelated to gasoline prices, given that oil is a global commodity, and factors that influence gasoline prices are generally beyond the control of a president or a nation.

    In Louisiana on Wednesday, Santorum blamed Obama's "radical energy policy" for slowing oil production on federal lands and off the coast of the Gulf of Mexico.

    "The underlying reason is because he believes in man-made global warming," Santorum said of Obama. The former Pennsylvania senator has dismissed climate change as "political science" despite a broad consensus among climate scientists that human activity has contributed to a warming of the earth.

    Gingrich has made the price of gasoline the central tenet of his sputtering candidacy, insisting he will bring gas prices down to $2.50 a gallon if elected.

    "This is a very anti-fossil fuels administration. The left wing environmental movement hates oil," Gingrich said recently at a campaign stop in Alabama.

    Romney has called on Obama to fire his "gas hike trio" - Romney's term for Energy Secretary Steven Chu, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar and Environmental Protection Agency chief Lisa Jackson.

    And Romney has chided Obama for his interest in renewable energy. "You can't drive a car with a windmill on it," the former Massachusetts governor told a campaign audience in Ohio earlier this month.

    In fact, Obama has walked a fine line with environmentalists on energy.

    Many cheered when he decided to reject the Keystone XL oil pipeline after widespread protests from environmental groups. But his administration is now pledging to fast-track a smaller segment of the pipeline to bring oil from Cushing, Okla., to the Gulf Coast, to environmentalists' dismay.

    Obama has drawn praise from environmentalists for instituting a temporary moratorium on deep-water drilling after the massive BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico last spring. But he is pushing more oil and gas drilling in part because of high fuel prices and has recently given approval to Shell to drill in the Arctic Ocean - a step that environmental groups have been fighting for years.

    Obama has also given a guarded endorsement of hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, even as the EPA and Interior Department are pursuing several new regulations on the controversial drilling practice to extract natural gas and oil from shale rock.

    Obama has pleased environmentalists with improvements in energy efficiency, fuel economy and investment in clean-energy technologies. But he has infuriated many by embracing nuclear energy as part of a so-called clean-energy standard.

    "This administration has expanded drilling in the Arctic, has delayed protections from smog, and at the same time done more for clean energy and to cut oil consumption than any administration ever," said Michael Brune, executive director of the Sierra Club. "By our view, that's a combination of wins and losses, or advances and retreats, that shows a pragmatic and moderate record."

    For what, she doesn't say, but deep stuff, right?

    She soon kicks up in a notch to a mid-tempo dance groove, so it's not entirely a downer of a track from our favorite "Girl Gone Wild." Take a listen to it below:

    Sports: Jon Jones joins effort to lift UFC ban in New York

    ALBANY -- A much-hyped April bout for the Ultimate Fighting Championship's light-heavyweight crown will feature a pair of native upstate New Yorkers who are among the most well-known names in mixed-martial arts.

    But it won't take place in Madison Square Garden in Manhattan or Buffalo's First Niagara Center or any of the state's other large-scale arenas. Rather, it will be held in Atlanta's Philips Arena, some 900 miles away.

    UFC officials are hoping the April 21 title fight between Rashad Evans and Jon "Bones" Jones could be enough to sway lawmakers in the promoter's annual battle with the Legislature over the state's ban on professional mixed-martial arts bouts.

    "This fight that we have coming up is going to be equivalent to Ali and Frazier, and there's no reason why we shouldn't be in Madison Square Garden," Evans, a Niagara Falls native, said Thursday. "New York should be getting the money that Atlanta is going to receive."

    UFC's Las Vegas-based parent company, Zuffa LLC, has lobbied New York lawmakers unsuccessfully for at least four years in an effort to overturn the state's ban, which was enacted in 1997.

    The company filed a lawsuit against the state and New York City in November, alleging that the law prohibiting the sport was unconstitutional and in violation of the First Amendment. That suit is still pending in federal court.

    "This fight is just as big as any Yankees game, any Jets game, any Giants game," said Jones, who was born in Rochester, grew up in Endicott, and now lives in Ithaca. "I'm just wondering when New York is going to open their eyes and realize what we're missing out on."

    As was the case in previous years, the chances of overturning the ban appear bleak this year.

    The state Senate passed a bill last year that would have removed the prohibition and allowed the state Athletic Commission to regulate the sport, but it never reached the Assembly floor for a vote.

    Several lawmakers and advocacy groups have expressed concern about the violent nature of professional mixed-martial arts bouts.

    "I do not believe there is any groundswell to change the position that we've taken on this issue," said Assembly Majority Leader Ron Canestrari, D-Cohoes, Albany County. "Speaking for myself, I consider it violent and I don't believe in this day and age we should be encouraging activities of this sort."

    Not all Senate Republicans are completely sold on the merits of the sport, either.

    "I supported it, but I have mixed emotions on it," said Senate Deputy Majority Leader Tom Libous, R-Binghamton. "I see it as entertainment and as positive economic development, but I wouldn't say that I am a personal fan of it."

    Jones, who holds the UFC's light-heavyweight belt, said he hopes to someday fight in New York in front of his family and friends.

    "It would just mean a lot to say thank you to them for being such strong supporters of UFC and such strong supporters of me personally," Jones said. "To let them see me fight in person I think could be a memorable experience for people."

    You can avail an amount ranging from ?1000 to ?25000. You will have to repay the loan amount within a short period of time. The borrower can avail benefits such as lower rate of interest and low monthly repayment facility. The lender checks your credit score before offering you the loan. A majority of the lenders offer unsecured loans to only those who have a good credit score and adequate income. This is only to check your ability to repay the loan amount within the stipulated period of time. The repayment period is between six months to ten years. Therefore, by checking your credit score, the lender will be in a position to judge whether you are eligible to avail an unsecured loan.

    Applying for unsecured loans is very easy. You will have to fill up an online application form and submit it. Once the lender receives your application, he/she verifies the details. The lender then contacts and enquires about details concerning requirement and repayment of the same day loans. With the online mode, you receive cash within 24 hours of filling up the application form. The online method helps the applicant in saving both time and money.

    Prior to applying for unsecured you need to fulfill certain pre requisites. One of the important pre requisites is that you must be a citizen of the UK. The applicant must be above 18 years of age and he/she must have a valid bank account. The applicant needs to be employed for a period of at least 3 months and he/she must be earning a certain amount of income.

    Did Katy Perry Just Diss Beyonce?

    Katy Perry is so excited about the prospect of a collaboration with BFF Rihanna, she may have put her foot in her mouth discussing the potential project.

    Perry weighed in on the forthcoming song (which undoubtedly will be a catchy #1 hit with those two working together), with an apparent dig at Beyonce:

    "We've collaborated on things, just not songs yet. It's one of those things that's got so much build-up that we have to deliver," she said on BBC Radio 1.

    Katy Perry is BackBeyonce in Concert

    "I want it to be like that Eurythmics and Aretha Franklin song 'Sisters Are Doin' It for Themselves,' not 'Beautiful Liar.' I definitely want to do something iconic."

    Beyonce's 2007 track "Beautiful Liar," featuring Shakira, isn't her best song, but it did reach No. 1 on the iTunes best-seller list and U.S. Hot Singles Sales.

    Perry doesn't have a reputation for starting beef with other celebs, so we're guessing she did not mean it as an insult ... even if it sort of reads that way.

    Maybe Bey and Katy can collaborate next and bury the hatchet in this non-feud?

    In sort of related news, KP sort of embarrassed herself covering "N****s In Paris" by Jay-Z and Kanye West at the same BBC Radio 1 appearance.
